School Year 2020-2021
Brooklyn Free Space currently has on spot open for an older three year old in the Sunshine Classroom. Please contact admin@brooklynfreespace.org to apply.
School Year 2021-2022
Our Admissions season for the school year 2021-2022 will kick off at our Virtual Open House on November 11th. Applications will go live on November 12th. Our Admissions season runs until January 14th for external Applications and on January 7th for Current and Alumni families. The lottery for private pay students will be held the following week.
BFS cannot offer placement for Pre-K spots during the lottery process, but we ask that you still fill out applications so we can reach you with important information and updates. The admissions process for Pre-K is typically completed in late Spring. In a typical year, we have several spots open in every room.
Please note: BFS does no have a half-day program. We only offer full day, five days a week.
Tuition & Fees
These fees may be revised for the 2021/2022 school year. The final tuition fees will be posted by November 1, 2020.
Enrollment Fees for the 2020-2021 School Year
Application Fee - $60. Fee charged with BFS Application. Fee waived for alumni, returning families and Pre-K For All.
Registration Deposit - $2,100 (full day. Due when Membership Agreement (MA) is signed, along with Membership Fee). This fee is non-refundable and will be applied to your June tuition, provided you have no outstanding balance at the end of the school year.
Membership Fee - $600 (one per family). Due at time of registration with Deposit. Refundable, upon request, the October after your child has left the school, provided you have no outstanding balance.
Materials Fee - $500 annually. Due by Friday, June 14, along with your September tuition payment.
First Tuition Payment - $2,100 (full day). Due by Friday, June 14, along with your Materials Fee.
School Day for the 2020-2021 School Year
Full day Jitterbug & Dragonfly M-F (9 am - 3 pm): $2,100 per month
Full day Pre-K M-F (8:50 am - 3:10 pm): free of charge
Extended Day
Extended Day care is billed per month for each day of attendance. Parents pre-register for days of week (Mondays, Tuesdays, etc.)
Early Bird Care (8 - 9 am): $12 per day (pre-registered, by day of week)
After School Care (3 - 6 pm): $24 per day (pre-registered, by day of week)
Grace Period (3 - 3:30 pm): $6 per day (pre-registered, by day of week)
Financial Aid
Brooklyn Free Space offers financial aid in the form of tuition reduction of 10-50% to new and returning qualifying families according to financial need. Funds are limited, but we invite all in need to apply.
Who Qualifies?
While BFS encourages applications for tuition reduction from all families that feel they need assistance, tuition reduction is typically offered to families whose annual household income is below $75,000.
To Apply
Families interested in applying for financial aid must submit a Parents Financial Statement (PFS) through National Association of Independent Schools' School and Student Services (SSS). There is a $47.00 fee to fill out the online application. If this fee presents a hardship for you, please contact mikia@brooklynfreespace.org and we can provide you with a fee waiver, if available. Our school code is 3924. BFS determines eligibility for admission without regard to a student’s application for financial aid, but please indicate that you are seeking financial assistance on your bfs application.
If your name is chosen in our initial Lottery, on February 1st, we will ask families who have indicated interest to review and submit their aid applications within two weeks. At that point, we will present you with a FA offer. We encourage families to fill this application out before the lottery or directly after the lottery to be sure that their application is complete as soon as possible. Families awarded aid will be asked to submit a copy of the past 2 years federal and state income tax returns.
